Prolactin antipsychotic drug-induced

It was later found that some effects of dopamine did not involve stimulation of adenylyl cyclase. Particularly, in the pituitary gland, dopamine was found to inhibit prolactin release without stimulating adenylyl cyclase activity and even by inhibiting it (Spano et al., 1978 De Camilli et al., 1979). Moreover, the antipsychotic drug sulpiride blocked the dopamine-induced release of prolactin in the pituitary gland but was unable to antagonize the dopamine response on adenylyl cyclase activity in the striatum (Trabucchi et al., 1975). While EPS and catalepsy in experimental animals are no longer considered to be necessary consequences of antipsychotic drug action (224,225), even the newest atypical antipsy-chotics block Dg receptors to varying degrees (12,13), and with the exception of quetiapine, can induce EPS, catalepsy, and increase serum prolactin at high doses (226-228). Thus, tests for such liabilities remain in most antipsychotic screening batteries. 

Cannabidiol Attentuated apomorphine-induced stereotypy in animal model of psychosis-similar to effect of other antipsychotic drugs. Animal study showed increased prolactin secretion similar to described antipsychotic effect. Based on observed effects, mechanism of action may be similar to atypical antipsychotics, though no data available on specific neurotransmitters involved. 

Aripiprazole for 8 weeks has been used in 24 patients with hyperprolactinemia induced by risperidone, amisulpride, or sulpiride [132 ]. Prolactin concentrations fell from 77 to 18 ng/ml in those taking risperidone, from 145 to 128 in those taking amisulpride, and from 71 to 43 ng/ml in those taking sulpiride. Aripiprazole had no significant effect on metabolic measures or scales of movement adverse reactions. Nevertheless, it should be remembered that antipsychotic drug combinations are not approved for any indication.
