Unfortunately, it is this writer s opinion that, considering the voluminous publications on chemometrics applications, the number of actual effective process analytical chemometrics applications in the field is much less than expected. Part of this is due to the overselling of chemometrics during its boom period, when personal computers (PCs) made these tools available to anyone who could purchase the software, even those who did not understand the methods. This resulted in misuse, failed applications, and a bad taste with many project managers (who tend to have long memories...). Part of the problem might also be due to the lack of adequate software tools to develop and safely implement chemometric models in a process analytical environment. Finally, some of the shortfall might simply be due to lack of qualified resources to develop and maintain chemometrics-based analytical methods in the field. 

Copies of the HAZOP or What-If reports are to be prepared by the Team Leader and delivered to the project manager. The project manager is responsible to formally distribute copies of the reports. Information stored on computer software disks may be considered original copies.

With the rapid development and introduction of software onto the marketplace, some of what has been described above may soon be out of date. One thing that will surely not vanish, however, is the ever-increasing need of project managers and organizations for tools to help them accomplish their complex and difficult jobs. While once just nice to have, these tools are now a necessity. So what does the future hold for computer-aided project management ...

There are a number of cases on the Unfair Contract Terms Act and on the requirement of reasonableness. ICL insisted on using its standard terms and conditions which stated that its liability will not exceed the price or charge payable for the item of Equipment, Program or Service in respect of which liability arises or 100,000 (whichever is the lesser)... . Errors in the software and incorrect advice from ICL s project manager resulted in an overestimate of the population of the area, an undercharge of residents and a loss to the council of 1.3 million.

The CPM example presented in this chapter is small for illustration purposes and to enable rapid manual calculations. Because actual CPM applications usually involve many more tasks and much larger networks which must be frequently updated, manual manipulations are not feasible. Commercial computer programs incorporating the basic algorithms described in this chapter are available for production application of the CPM and other project management tools.
