One potentially serious consequence of enzyme induction relates to the oral contraceptive pill (OOP), which may be rendered ineffective by induction of its metabolism. The effect of a period of drug administration on circulating concentrations of the appropriate oestrogen and progestogens over the course of menstrual cycles may be examined in women taking the OCP, with additional non-hormonal precautions taken to avoid unwanted pregnancy. [Pg.233]
