An important target for gene therapy is the mitochondrial genome, mutations of which may be involved in many rare diseases. Such mitochondriopathies may be amenable to treat-ment by genetic modifications 

GMP is aimed at assuring the quality of the product by assuring the quality of the process. GMP should also be part of the process development (e.g., development reports and approval reqnirements), and proceed throngh validation, mannfacturing, controls and end-product testing, as well as reaching into the distribution network of the prodnct.
