Processionary moth

A mixture of (2, 2 )-ll,13-hexadecadienyl acetate and (Z,E)-11,13,15-hexadecatrienyl acetate was identified as the female (synergistic) sex pheromone of the oak processionary moth, Thaumetopoea processionea (Lepidoptera Thaumetopoeidae). In field experiments, a combination of both esters attracted a significant number of male moths, but not when used individually in traps. [Pg.299]

A related substance with a triple bond, the acetyl-ester of hexadecenynol, is the sole female sex pheromone of the pine processionary moth (Thaume-topoea pityocampa) (Quero et al., 1997) and may be used for mass trapping. [Pg.152]
