PROCESSING OF NYLON

Breslow et al. reported that nylon-3 ( sometimes described as nylon 3 or poly- p -alanine) is obtained using hydrogen transfer polymerization of acrylamide in the presence of an anionic catalyst  [Pg.109]

Nylon-3, (CH2CH2CONH)n, is a highly crystalline polymer with a high density of amide groups and is considered usefiil as a textile. The polymer melts at about 340 C with considerable decomposition. Therefore, melt spinning cannot be used, but wet or dry spinning may be chosen for the fiber production. [Pg.109]

After the study by Breslow [1], various studies were completed [2-9], At present, nylon-3 is eommercially produced at Asahi Chemical and others, as an excellent stabilizer for polyoxymethylene. [Pg.110]

As an example in the high-temperature RIM processing of nylon, temperatures are monitored and controlled within 2F using both electrical heat tracing and hot oil jacketing. The controllers contain... [Pg.417]

A fiber lubricant for the processing of nylon fibers. Gives good fIber-to-fiber lurbicity. [Pg.379]

The number of fragment molecules obtained during pyrolysis of nylon 12 is higher than that for nylon 6. However, the similarity in the reaction types occurring during pyrolysis of the two polymers is obvious. Even formation of azacyclotridecan-2-one, which is the equivalent of caprolactam for nylon 6, takes place in the pyrolytic process of nylon 12. [Pg.605]

The hydroxyl radicals formed may abstract hydrogen atoms from polymer molecules and thus initiate the auto-oxidation reaction. ZnO accelerates the process of nylon photo-oxidation [199]. Kuriacose and Markham [358] suggested, that several species of oxygen, 02(l g, 1 Jg), Of, O" and O, can be formed at the photocatalytic ZnO surface. [Pg.477]

Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) is one of the routine methods used in polymer characterization and improves the knowledge of the microphase structure with other complementary methods. Lu et al. [149] investigated nonisothermal crystallization processes of Nylon/EVM (ethylene-vinyl acetate rubbers) blend using DSC and they found out that EVM rubber could act as heterogeneous nuclei acting more effective in Nylon/... [Pg.22]
