Process integration power plants

At chemical sites producing sulfuric acid, further reduction in SOj emissions of power plants is possible using the Wellman-Lord process in which pure SOj is recovered and recycled to the production process. The power plant thus supplies starting materials to the chemical production plant, and becomes an integral part of it. In the... [Pg.87]

COMBISULF A process for removing sulfur compounds from the gases from combined-cycle power plants with integrated coal gasification. Carbonyl sulfide is removed by catalytic hydrolysis hydrogen sulfide is removed by selective absorbtion in aqueous MEDA and the sulfur is recovered from both processes by a modified Claus unit. Developed by Krupp Koppers and first operated in Spain in 1996. See PRENFLO. [Pg.70]

The author asserts that an isothermal plant arrangement (process integration therefore not applicable) is essential for greater thermodynamic efficiency, and hopefully for cheapness. An equilibrium diagram for such a plant is shown in Figure A.4. The plant is arranged so that exergy is supplied as electrical power and not by combustion heat, an entirely theoretical concept, and therefore a difficult development problem, for Methanex, Air Products and Ballard. [Pg.32]
