Procedure 2-18 Design of Jacketed Vessels

External jackets are used to heat or cool the contents of a vessel. In effect, this turns the pressure vessel into a heat exchanger. Jacketing is an optimum means to accomplish this in terms of control, efficiency and product quality. The advantages are as follows  [Pg.124]

All liquids can be used. Steam is ideal for heating. Water or Glycol are ideal for cooling. [Pg.124]

Circulation, temperature and velocity of the heating/ cooling media can be carefully controlled. [Pg.124]

Jackets may be fabricated from a much less expensive metal than the shell. [Pg.124]

Cleaning and maintenance can be minimized providing a clean media is utilized. [Pg.124]
