Problems With Sulfhydryl Compounds

There is no need at this time to discuss the various chemical ways in which hypoxia and sulfhydryl compounds might conceivably reduce the indirect effects of radiation. These problems have been amply considered by Ord and Stocken (1) and Patt (9) in their reviews. Little can be said at this time about the different results on protection against neutrons and failure to protect against mutations in some systems. There is most certainly a physical or chemical explanation connected with spatial distribution of ionization or inherent oxygen tensions of the tissues not protected.
