Primary care trusts

Health authorities and health boards and their equivalents, trust hospitals and primary care trusts and groups need to estimate their likely budgets two to three years in advance in order to meet Treasury requirements and there is a need for them to receive advance information about the introduction of new medicines, or changes to existing medicines, which may significantly affect their level of expenditure during future years. 

The prescriber s address, which for most prescribers is usually the practice address, is preprinted on the prescription form (along with details of the primary care trust (or equivalent) to which the practice belongs). For a nurse employed by a primary care trust, the trust s address is printed on the form and the nurse has to add a code that identifies the patient s GP practice. 

Part XIX - Payments to chemists suspended by a primary care trust or by direction of the FHSAA... 

This part details how payments will be calculated to those pharmacies who have had their contract with their local Primary Care Trust in England or Local Health Board in Wales suspended or who are suspended by direction of the FHSAA (Family Health Services Appeal Authority). Suspension of a contract would be imposed, for example, to protect patients if there is evidence of substandard clinical practice or personal behaviour.

The use of PGDs must be authorized by the National Health Service (NHS) Trust, Health Authority or Primary Care Trust.

As of 2003, there were 386,359 nurses in the UK. Even 1% representation would mean 3864 nurses and with 301 Primary Care Trusts (PCI) in foe United Kingdom (UK) (as of April 2004) we wotild need at least 13 responses from each PCT. If the sample population was to be reduced to just the tissue virility nurses, nurses from various PCTs from different parts of the country, could be selected with sanqile of 10 tissue viability nurses fi m each county. With 39 counties in foe UK, this would lead to 390. This would in no way be a representation of the whole nursing population in UK but could still be sufficient representation of the nurses who arc active in wound care services.
