Preparing for the PSA

A thorough understanding of the plant is necessary before the analysis begins. The importance of the familiarization depends on the composition of the PSA team. If it consists primarily of experienced plant personnel, the team needs familiarity with PSA, if it is primarily a PSA team, the team needs familiarity with the plant. 

Accident familiarity is gained by studying plant incidents using the databases described in Chapter 4 and the plant s operating experience.

A PSA consists of many tasks and subtasks some tasks are performed in parallel others are in series. The experience of personnel, availability of data, computer programs, and manpower determine the PSA schedule.
