Preparation organoaluminium compounds

It is interesting to note that the reaction of Etl with Al metal to give the sesqui-iodide Et3Al2l3 wa.s the first recorded preparation of an organoaluminium compound (W. Hallwachs and A. Schafarik, 1859). 

Organoaluminium compounds have been utilized for alkynylation of alicyclic oxiranes in prostaglandin synthesis and for the preparations of m-alkenols (Eq. 252). ° ... 

Catalysts prepared by supporting TiCl on silica or polyethylene powder and activated by organoaluminium compounds before polymerization have an activity which is 10 times as high as that of bulk d-TiCls x 0.3 AICI3 (Table 1). This increase is due to the increase of the number of ACj. As it has been shown the dispersed surface phase of TiCls is an active component of these supported catalysts. 

Organopalladium compounds are prepared with organometallic compounds such as organoalkali metal compounds, Grignard reagents and organoaluminium compounds. For example, reactions are shown in eqs. (20.14)-(20.17) [32-35]. 

Chiral -substituted carbonyl compounds have been prepared in high optical purity (64-98%) by the use of organoaluminium chemistry. Thus treatment of an acetal derived from an a, 6-unsaturated aldehyde and R,R- tartaric acid diamide with a trialkylalane gives largely the 1,4- addition product from which the desired ketone is derived by ozonolysis (Scheme 12). 1... 

Pb(CH3)4 can be applied to extract aluminium and alkylaluminium alkoxide impurities from organoaluminium complexes used in the electrolytic preparation of tetraorganolead compounds [177]. Pb(CH3)4 was claimed to prevent corrosion of graphite by CO2 used as fluid coolant in nuclear reactors [178], and to stabilize halogenated aryl compounds, employed as dielectric, insulating, or cooling agents [179].
