3 Preparation of trithioureacopper (I) chloride Thiourea is a soft base ligand and can stabilise Cu(I). 

Dissolve 5.0 g of thiourea in 25 cm hot water, add 1.0 g copper turnings and 5 cm cone. HCI. Heat on a steam bath until copper dissolves. Filter while hot and allow the filtrate to cool until crystallisation seems complete. Filter under suction, wash with acetone and dry under suction. Weigh the product to the nearest eg.
