4 Preferred Acidolysis Procedure 6.1.4.1 Preparation of the Acidolysis Reagent 

Reagent grade dioxane is refluxed with sodium until the sodium acquires a metallic luster (—12 h). The dioxane is distilled and stored frozen in bottles. The acidolysis reagent is prepared by dilution of 2 M hydrochloric acid with dioxane to a 0.2 M solution in a volumetric flask.
