Preparation of Rieke Manganese

In a typical preparation, lithium (9.68 mmol), naphthalene (1.48 mmol), and anhydrous manganese chloride (4.71 mmol) under argon were stirred in freshly distilled THF (10ml) for 3 h at rt. 

As a representative procedure, to a slurry of Rieke manganese (10.0 mmol) in THF (10 ml) under argon was added 1-bromododecane (0.80 mmol) at 0°C,
