Prepaid medical care of any kind is when physicians and hospitals are paid a set amount to care for a group. The first well-intentioned efforts related to provision of care for employees by big companies on a somewhat feudal but paternal basis. Large-scale engineering, construction, railroad, and mining companies provided company doctors and hospital facilities, but rapidly began to favor free choice and externally provided service plans.
