Preliminary genome data

In the summer of 2000, a major milestone was reached in the Human Genome Project, with completion of a working draft sequence for approximately 90 percent of the human genome. In essence, this reflects the acquisition of preliminary sequence data for virtually all of the readily clonable human DNA. This sequence will be refined (i.e., finished to high accuracy) over the next 2 to 3 years. Indeed, the complete, finished sequence for two human chromosomes has already been achieved.

Preliminary data support the existence of comparable sequences in the human genome, however, functional expression of human NR3 subunits has not been reported so far as far as we are aware. 

Preliminary experiments done in our laboratory showed that antibodies specific for cellobiohydrolase failed to cross react with either purified cellobiase, purified endoglucanase, or crude endoglucanase. These results, together with data reported in the literature, which show that endoglucanase and cellobiohydrolase have different physical structures, indicate that the three cellulases could be transcribed and translated by different genomes. In this context, then, the question arises as to whether cellulase production is regulated by a common regulatory circuit or by different circuits. 

Cell culture-based methods suitable for obtaining chloroplast-encoded herbicide resistance in crops will be reviewed. These will Include mutant selection in cultured cells, transfer of chloroplasts via protoplast fusion, and selection of recombinant chloroplast genomes. Examples will be limited to resistance to triazine herbicides. Chloroplast transformation involving introduction of novel DNA into chloroplasts, will not be covered. Preliminary data indicate that chloroplast transformation may be feasible (4) but have not been confirmed. The genetics, physiology...
