Preface to Section

In this concluding section of Part II, it is appropriate to summarize the major conceptual and mathematical features of the Gibbs formulation of thermodynamic equilibrium theory, as a preface to its geometrical reformulation in the ensuing Part III. The following equations (8.70)-(8.95) summarize the essential mathematical structure of the Gibbsian formalism, as erected on the historical foundation of Chapters 1-4 and exploited in the applications of Chapters 5-8. 

In this volume discussions of some major groups of pest control chemicals have been included, as well as some closely related topics such as insect and plant growth regulators. Figure 3 shows the key parameters that affect the performance of a catalytic converter. Many of these parameters are influenced by the substrate design, which will be discussed in the next section. As a preface to that, we will list here the requirements an ideal substrate must meet. 

The preface to the T edition, also intended as a summary to guide the reader through the book, has in the majority retained its relevance for the present edition. The already extensive survey of our field of work is complemented by a number of new topics. Prof. W. Grosch provides the reader with a comprehensive survey of aroma analysis with a special emphasis on key odourants. Contributors from multinational food companies introduce a focus on final products in the section on applications. Additionally, the sector on non-natural flavors has been expanded to include the current state of the European chemical group classifications. 

NMR, EXAFS/XANES, and STM (see Section 2.4.2). Procedures specific to chemisorbed states 17.29,30,68-70 include measurement of changes in electrical or magnetic character, vibrational spectroscopies, (HREELS, DRIFTS/RAIRS etc), calorimetry and thermal desorption. This short list is far from being comprehensive, and the reader is reminded that the purpose of this work is not to instmct in the use of these techniques, but rather to present and evaluate the results they generate. The principles concerned are only mentioned where understanding of the results necessitates it. This is somewhat in the spirit of Jerome K. Jerome, who in his Preface to Three Men in a Boat (to say nothing of the dog) advised his readers not to use it as a manual for a River Thames holiday they would, he said, be wiser to stay ay home. 

So, unlike the Shukuk, the commentary on the Khutba is entirely expository and never critical. We shall return to the points raised in the preface to the commentary in Section 1.4 below, where some of the text s contents are examined. 

Abu 1-Barakat s influence is also palpable in Section 1 of the Shukuk, as we shall see in Chapter 6 below. Going further, al-Razi remarks in the preface to his Jawdbdt that most of al-MasTidi s criticisms are borrowed from Abu 1-Barakat, but this seems an exaggeration. ... 

Sutton s statement describes a necessity for superior results to be achieved. And safety professionals should be working toward influencing management that it is in their best interest to put processes in place to uncover, confront, and address hazards and the risks that derive from them. Never the less, realism with respect to the management practices in some companies must be acknowledged, as is discussed in the next section. Unfortunately, what R. B. Whittingham wrote in the Preface to The Blame Machine Why Human Error Causes Accidents speaks to what is sometimes actuality ...
