Precursors methyltrimethoxysilane - MTMS

The trend was studied and verified, for instance, for reactions catalysed by transition metal, organo- and enzyme catalysts entrapped in ORMOSIL prepared by copolymerization of tetramethoxysilane (TMOS) and the modifying co-precursor methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS). It has been correlated with the encapsulation itself but also with the structure of the sol-gel matrix, namely the hydrophobicity-lipophilicity balance (HLB) and the textural properties of the materials.9... 

For example, increasing the hydrophobicity of the organosilica matrix drastically reduces the release rate as shown by Figure 18.6 profiling release for hydrophilic dyes entrapped in full microparticles. Clearly, with increasing amount of methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) in the TMOS/ MTMS precursor sol, the release rate drastically decreases. 

In an altogether different approach to improve the mechanics and introduce superhydrophobic properties, in this chapter, we are presenting work on the synthesis of flexible and superhydrophobic silica aerogels derived from methyltrimethoxysilane (MTMS) and methyltriethoxysilane (MTES) precursors and their usability as efficient sorbents for oil and hydrocarbons [18, 19]. The main objective of this chapter is to provide an overview of synthesis, characterization, and most promising areas of applications.
