The carbon monoxide formed, which amounts to about 735 pounds per ton of crude carbide, is not recovered, although it has a heating value of 4,380 B.T.U. per pound. 

Two pounds of drug containing four ounces of active ingredient per pound is eight ounces or one-half pound, per ton. In that 1 lb is 454 g, 0.5 lbs = 227 g. There are 907 kg in one ton. It follows then that there are 227 g, or 0.227 kg, of active ingredient in 907 kg of livestock ration. Therefore, 0.227 kg/907 kg = 0.025%, and when the decimal is moved four places to the right, the calculation becomes 250 parts per million (ppm). 

Unmodified starch is also used at 20-40 pounds per ton of pulp. It is retained mainly by entrapment.
