Potassium thiocyanate/DMSO

Advances of the past three decades, however, have produced alternatives to the heavy metal-based cellulose solvents. Prominent among them are dimethylacetamide/LiCl (DMAc/LiCl) N,MMN-0 hydrate (NMMO) tetrabutylammonium fluoride/DMSO (TBAF/DMSO) and potassium thiocyanate/DMSO [48]. While many of these solvents have gained significant popularity among laboratory chemists, only the amine oxide solvent, N,MMNO, has achieved industrial practicality. This will be discussed in the section on regenerated cellulose fibers. Several other important physical properties of cellulose are given in O Table 4. [Pg.1486]

The importance of solvent effects in the preparation of perfluoroalkyzinc reagents is further illustrated in the reaction of perfluoroalkyl iodides with zinc-copper couple. In DMSO, DMF, and HMPA, the main products are the fluo-roolefins The formation of the fluoroolefin is facilitated when the reaction is carried out in the presence of potassium thiocyanate [30] (equation 21)... [Pg.675]

Alkyl thiocyanates (39) are prepared by heating alkyl halides ortosylates with sodium or potassium thiocyanate (Scheme 21). The reaction may be performed in acetone, ethanol or water, but goes best in polar aprotic solvents like DMF or DMSO. The thiocyanate ion is an ambidentate nucleophile owing to resonance (Figure 1).4 In principle, therefore, the reaction shown in Scheme 21 may yield... [Pg.157]
