SAFETY PROFILE Poison by subcutaneous, intravenous, and intramuscular routes. Moderately toxic by ingestion. Human and experimental teratogenic and experimental reproductive effects. Human reproductive effects by subcutaneous, intravenous, intramuscular, intraperitoneal, intravaginal, and intraplacental routes postpartum depression and other maternal effects, abortion, and changes in measures of fertility. Human teratogenic effects by intraplacental route extra embryonic structures. Human systemic effects by intravenous route hypermotiUty, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting. Human mutation data reported. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and fumes. 

Postpartum breast engorgement can be effectively suppressed by both the combination pill and the sequential regimen [195-196]. There is decreased lochial flow and a predictable onset of menses, with the additional social benefit of fertility control. 

In mice orally administered 10 or 20 mg/kg of the compound piperine daily for 14 days, an increase in the period of the diestrous phase was observed, resulting in decreased mating performance and fertility. Postpartum litter growth was not affected by the piperine treatment. Considerable anti-implantation activity was recorded after 5 days postmating oral treatment with piperine (Daware et al. 2000).
