Post-thrombotic syndrome

While VTE may initially cause few or no symptoms, the first overt manifestation of the disease may be sudden death.2 Death from PE can occur within minutes, before effective treatment can be given. In addition to the symptoms produced by the acute event, the long-term sequelae of VTE such as the post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS a complication of VTE occurring due to damage to the vein caused by a blood... [Pg.134]

Hemodynamic changes after sclerotherapy have been evaluated in a prospective observational trial in 53 patients, in whom 67 sites were treated with polidocanol foam [83 "]. With the exception of two sites, all the treatments resulted in at least an improvement, and about 80% of the treated veins were completely occluded as demonstrated by duplex ultrasonography. Patients with post-thrombotic syndrome had poorer results. [Pg.1021]

In 16 renal transplant patients with suspected ciclosporin nephrotoxicity, the addition of mycophenolate allowed safe reduction in the dosage of ciclosporin, with subsequent improvement in renal function and arterial blood pressure over 6 months (1). It might allow the rapid withdrawal of glucocorticoids in patients taking ciclosporin or tacrolimus, and therefore reduce the incidence of glucocorticoid-induced post-transplant diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, and hypertension (2). There have been several reports of patients with ciclosporin-associated thrombotic micro-angiopathy/hemolytic-uremic syndrome in whom mycophenolate was successfully substituted (3,4). [Pg.2402]
