Polystyrene-Wocfc-poly

In order to overcome the build-up of these stresses, the addition of triblock terpolymers as compatibilizing agents with an elastomeric middle block and end blocks of PS and PMMA, respectively, appears advantageous. One example is the use of polystyrene-Wocfc-poly(l,4-butadiene)-W0cfc-poly(methyl methacrylate)... [Pg.218]

Polystyrene-Wocfc-poly(isocyanodipeptide)s PS40- -PIAA10 (AA = L-alanine-L-alanine-COCTNa+) (Fig. 4a), introduced by Nolte et al. [26], were found to form bilayered vesicles in aqueous sodium acetate buffer solution at pH 5.6. The vesicles observed had diameters ranging from tens to hundreds of nanometers and a bilayer... [Pg.173]

Adsorption of block copolymers onto a surface is another pathway for surface functionalization. Block copolymers in solution of selective solvent afford the possibility to both self-assemble and adsorb onto a surface. The adsorption behavior is governed mostly by the interaction between the polymers and the solvent, but also by the size and the conformation of the polymer chains and by the interfacial contact energy of the polymer chains with the substrate [115-119], Indeed, in a selective solvent, one of the blocks is in a good solvent it swells and does not adsorb to the surface while the other block, which is in a poor solvent, will adsorb strongly to the surface to minimize its contact with the solvent. There have been a considerable number of studies dedicated to the adsorption of block copolymers to flat or curved surfaces, including adsorption of poly(/cr/-butylstyrcnc)-ft/od -sodium poly(styrenesulfonate) onto silica surfaces [120], polystyrene-Woc -poly(acrylic acid) onto weak polyelectrolyte multilayer surfaces [121], polyethylene-Wocfc-poly(ethylene oxide) on alkanethiol-patterned gold surfaces [122], or poly(ethylene oxide)-Woc -poly(lactide) onto colloidal polystyrene particles [123],... [Pg.16]

So far, there have been only few reports about the synthesis of amphipolar polymer brushes, i.e. with amphiphilic block copolymer side chains. Gna-nou et al. [115] first reported the ROMP of norbornenoyl-endfunctionalized polystyrene-f -poly(ethylene oxide) macromonomers. Due to the low degree of polymerization, the polymacromonomer adopted a star-like rather than a cylindrical shape. Schmidt et al. [123] synthesized amphipolar cylindrical brushes with poly(2-vinylpyridine)-block-polystyrene side chains via radical polymerization of the corresponding block macromonomer. A similar polymer brush with poly(a-methylstyrene)-Wocfc-poly(2-vinylpyridine) side chains was also synthesized by Ishizu et al. via radical polymerization [124]. Using the grafting from approach, Muller et al. [121, 125] synthesized... [Pg.201]
