Polymethacrylates peroxides

Polymethacrylates. Poly(methyl methacrylate) [9011-14-7] is a thermoplastic. Itis the acryUc resin most used in building products, frequendy as a blend or copolymer with other materials to improve its properties. The monomer is polymerized either by bulk or suspension processes. Eor glazing material, its greatest use, only the bulk process is used. Sheets are prepared either by casting between glass plates or by extmsion of pellets through a sHt die. This second method is less expensive and more commonly used. Peroxide or azo initiators are used for the polymerization (see Methacrylic polymers). [Pg.327]

We have prepared polymethacrylic anhydride by polymerization at 100° in toluene solution with benzoyl peroxide as initiator and at... [Pg.167]

Manufacture Polymethacrylate VI improvers are free-radical initiated solution copolymers. A wide variety of peroxide or azo initiators may be used, and several are used commercially, choice dictated largely by half-life at reaction temperatures in the range 100-140°C. In turn, this is driven by manufacturing convenience and kettle productivity factors. Production is a simple batch or semi-batch process at a... [Pg.156]

Products from the oxidation of methacrylates, e.g. peroxides and pyruvate, can be determined ), both in monomers and polymethacrylates, by dissolving the sample (1 1 for monomer, 1 25 for polymer) in a methanol-benzene (1 1) mixture containing 0-3 M lithium chloride. Pyruvate, which is the final product in the... [Pg.212]

More important and with better properties are the cold-setting, two-component acrylate adhesives, which contain methacrylates or acrylates, sometimes mixed with styrene and methacrylic acid as monomer and, in addition, various polymers. The polymers used are primarily synthetic rubbers, such as polychloroprene, styrene-butadiene rubber, butyl rubber, polystyrene, polymethacrylates, and acrylate graft polymers of these polymers. Amines are used as accelerators, and benzoyl peroxide in the form of plasticizer pastes or a powder mixture with fillers is preferred as hardener [43]. [Pg.30]
