Polymers for Enclosures

Another manufacturer, Hammond Electronics, offers five styles, each comprising sixteen size options, of small sealed IP66 compliant enclosures. Outdoor applications utilise PC, with the option of transparent lids, whereas ABS is used indoors. All enclosure lids have a poured gasket tongue and grooved seal. 

The requirements of the application, and price, will determine the selection of suitable polymers and a selection of these is shown in Table 3.3.

Polyester reinforced with glass fibre Enclosnres for hostile atmospheres, good resistance to chemicals, good temperature range capability can be used both indoors and outdoors 

Styrene polymers ABS Typical grades UL 94 HB UL 94 VO Acrylonitrile-butadiene- styrene Copolymer Plug cases. Enclosures with good resistance to chemicals, lightweight, normal temperatures. ABS can also be flame retardant
