Polymer light weight

ABS materials are superior to the ordinary styrene products and are commonly described as tough, hard, and rigid. This combination is unusual for thermoplastics. Moreover, the molded specimens generally have a very good surface finish, and this property is particularly marked with the interpolymer type ABS polymers. Light weight and the ability to economically achieve a one-step finished appearance part have contributed to large-volume applications of ABS. [Pg.421]

The present invention provides a wheel cover which improves the aerodynamic properties of the hub-rim-spoke wheels. The wheel cover of the present invention is preferably made of a light weight synthetic or natural polymer, fabric or paper film which is adhesively applied to a wheel through simple manual application. In turn, the aerodynamic wheel cover of the present invention may also be easily removed and replaced to allow on-road repairs of spoke, hub, or rim. [Pg.28]

Articles made from polypropylene have good electrical and chemical resistance and low water absorption. Its other useful characteristics are its light weight (lowest thermoplastic polymer density), high abrasion resistance, dimensional stability, high impact strength, and no toxicity. Table 12-3 shows the properties of polypropylene. [Pg.332]

The C02 thus acts as a substitute for the petroleum production of plastics. Polyurethanes are used to produce a wide range of everyday applications. When they are used for the insulation of buildings, the polyurethane saves about 80% more energy than it consumes during production. Light weight polymers are used in the automotive industry, upholstered furniture... [Pg.110]

Light scattering from solutions can be used to measure Molecular weights as low as that of sucrose and as high as those of proteins. In actual practice, polymer Molecular weights are of the order of 10,000-10,000,000 and can readily be measured. The method has been used for determination of absolute values... [Pg.117]
