Polymers isomerism

Two molecules are said to be isomers if they are made up of the same number and types of atoms, but differ in the arrangement of these atoms. [Pg.30]

There are various types of isomerism that occur in nature and to us they find their most fearsome form in describing the structure of various sugars. Fortunately, the types of isomerism we will consider are not as complex or involved. Specifically, we will consider  [Pg.30]

Charles Goodyear was a young bankrupt hardware merchant when he visited the Roxbury India Rubber Co, store, America s first rubber manufacturer, in 1834. He was trying to sell an idea for a new valve to be used in rubber life preservers. But his timing was lousy  [Pg.31]

STRUCTURAL INFORMATION ON POLYMERS - Study of polymer isomerism... [Pg.159]

Analytical pyrolysis has been used frequently for providing structural information on polymers (see e.g. [1], including polymer isomerism, which was summarily presented in Section 1.3. For example, pyrolysis studies have been used for the analysis of proportion of head-to-tail (H-T) versus head to head (H-H) isomers in polymers and for the study of stereoregularity [2]. [Pg.159]

The initial four chapters of the book concern several important aspects of polymer science which are relevant to a course in polymer chemistry. Following Chapter 1, which is a general introduction aimed at giving the reader an appreciation for the language, applications, and versatility of synthetic polymers. Chapter 2 is devoted to polymer characterization dealing with the size and shape of a polymer chain, polymer isomerism, polymer conformation, and thermal transitions in polymers. [Pg.858]

All of the above polymers exhibit large absorption bands in the visible region of the spectra and the norbomadiene moieties in these polymers isomerize very rapidly. In addition, the norbomadiene moieties also exhibit efficient fatigue resistance [185]. [Pg.753]

Kawashima et al. [188] reported preparation of donor-acceptor type norbomadiene carboxylic acids compounds with carbamoyl groups, such as dipropylcarbamoyl, methylphenylcarbamoyl, propylcarbamoyl, and phenyl-carbamoyl. Benzyl esters were also prepared. Addition of these groups to polystyrenes formed polymers with pendant donor-acceptor type norbomadiene. Some were formed with 100% substitution. It was found that the polymers containing phenylcarbamoyl groups exhibit especially high photo-reactivity. In addition, the rate of the photochemical reaction in films of these norbomadiene polymers increases efficiently by an addition of 4,4 -bis(diethyl-amino)benzo-phenone photosensitizer. As a result, all the norbomadiene groups of the polymers isomerize to the... [Pg.753]
