In practice, the choice of WI is based on the analysis of service, design, economic and other factors. An efficient means of improving wear resistance of the polyamide-steel 45 friction pair turns out to be inhibition of the thermally oxidative and destructive processes in the polymer surface layers to avoid the formation of corrosion-active oxide compounds. It is possible to break this unfavorable cycle by the introduction of antioxidants into the polymer composition, thus disabling macroradicals through the reactions of mechanochemical synthesis, polyamide alloying by functional additives forming separating layers or more thermally stable products, and so on [108]. Application of WI with this aim abates undesirable thermally oxidative processes in polyamide...

Polypropylene/polyamide alloy, PP/PA. The properties of Gapex reflect the relative amounts of pol5rpropylene, nylon, compatibilizers, and reinforcements. 

In some industrial applications, like hydraulic hoses, a two-layer structure may be produced from the coextrusion of a soft Engineering Polyamide Alloy and a Thermoplastic Vulcanizate (TPV), like Santoprene Thermoplastic Rubber. As the inner layer, the polyamide component provides a barrier against oil at high temperatures the TPV provides flexibility, resistance to abrasion as well as adhesion to the inner layer. 

The objective is to produce a hose having a 2.5 mm tliick outer layer with TPV rabber and an irmer layer of 0.5 mm with a soft engineering polyamide Alloy. The TPV resin used was Santoprene grade 8291-80TB and it was nranufactured by ExxonMobil Chemical. 

The coextrusion of a bi-layered (thermoplastic rubber grade together with an engineering polyamide alloy) hose was initially leading to an unstable extrudate with an unacceptable lack of concentricity and poor distribution of the two materials. This observation is successfully reproduced by the 3D finite element simulation.
