Poly vinyl trichloroacetate -Based ABCPs

Virtually the only restriction on the monomer that is used to form the B component of the above type of ABCPs is that it should be polymerizable by free radicals in solution. In most of the synthetic work carried out to date methyl methacrylate, styrene, and chloroprene have been employed, but several other monomers were used in kinetic studies. [Pg.97]

The relative quantity of conterminous grafting to simple grafting obtained depends on the ratio of combination to disproportionation, as illustrated in the following pair of reactions  [Pg.97]

Under some kinds of reaction conditions, for example, poly(methyl methacrylate) has a combination .disproportionation ratio of about 0.25, while that of polystyrene is close to 10. Thus, polystyrene will yield more of structure I in reaction (5.6), while poly(methyl methacrylate) will yield more of structure II. At light grafting levels, of course, the products will be soluble. [Pg.97]
