Poly cholesteryl methacrylate PChMA

Poly(cholestery1 methacrylate), (PChMA) and Poly(cholesteryl p-acryloyloxybenzoate), (PChAB). [Pg.5]

The structure of these polymers is classified as Smectic A ( ). The interplanar spacing is approximately twice the length of the side group. The structure is discussed in some detail in another paper in this volume. [Pg.5]

Poly(di(N-p-acryloyloxybenzylidene)-p-diamino-benzene), (PdiABAB). The polymerization of this difunctional monomer and the copolymerization with a monofunctional monomer have been previously described, ( 9 ). Polymerization of this monomer in its nematic state in a magnetic field of 4,000 Oe leads to an oriented polymer. The diffraction pattern of this poly- [Pg.5]

The Bragg spacing calculated from the inner ring is less than twice the length of the side chain (with extended n-alkyl groups). Further, careful measurement of the angles of the first and second order peaks, shows (sin 9) second order 2(sin 9) first order. [Pg.7]

These features indicate a structure which differs from a well organized smectic. Further, the high intensity of the inner ring implies a state more organized than nematic. [Pg.7]
