Pt(CO)2Cl2] is used to deposit thin films of metallic platinum on surfaces. Concentiated organic solutions of poorly defined platinum complexes of alkyl mercaptides or sulforesinates are used to coat ceramics and glass. [Pg.185]

Metal neodecanoates, such as magnesium, lead, calcium, and zinc, are used to improve the adherence of plasticized poly(vinyl butyral) sheet to safety glass in car windshields (121). The reduction of iminium salts can be achieved by a variety of methods. Some of the methods have been studied primarily on quaternary salts of aromatic bases, but the results can be extrapolated to simple iminium salts in most cases. The reagents available for reduction of iminium salts are sodium amalgam (52), sodium hydrosulfite (5i), potassium borohydride (54,55), sodium borohydride (56,57), lithium aluminum hydride (5 ), formic acid (59-63), H, and platinum oxide (47). A wide variety of complexes are formed by both metals in the +2 oxidation state indeed, it is the most important one for palladium. The complexes can be cationic, neutral or anionic. Both Pd2+ and Pt2+ are soft acids so that many stable complexes are formed with S or P as donor atoms but few with O-donors, though there are important ammines.
