The vinca alkaloids are useful in the treatment of both malignant and nonmalignant disease. Though the former category accounts for a proportionally greater fraction of use of these compounds, their use in benign but often fatal platelet disorders, while evolving, is nonetheless established and important.

Use with caution in older patients with Renal impairment, Hepatic impairment, Cardiovascular Disease, CHF, HTN, PUD, History of GI bleeding, GERD, Bleeding and platelet disorders. History of aspirin sensitivity reaction. Also use with caution in patients taking Anticoagulants, Aspirin, and Ant (hypertensive agents. 

Low-speed centrifugation results in the separation of platelets (top layer) from larger and more dense cells such as leukocytes and erythrocytes (bottom layer). To minimize leukocyte contamination in PRP specimens, slowly aspirate the uppermost 2/3 of the platelet layer. Furthermore, certain rare platelet disorders, such as Bemard-Soulier Syndrome (BSS), are characterized by larger than normal platelets which must therefore be isolated by allowing whole blood to gravity separate for 2 hours post-venipuncture.
