Plasma polymerization polyurethane

Chemical process plants often use epoxy, acrylic, polyurethane, and other coatings to prevent corrosion.107 Food cans often have epoxy resin linings. A coating made by the plasma polymerization of a 1 1 perfluorobutane-hy-drogen mixture protected copper from aqueous corrosion.108 Auto makers often use electrogalvanized steel... [Pg.399]

Plasma polymerization of allyl alcohol on the UF PSU membrane gave a material with some amount of hydroxyl groups, which served as the anchoring sites for the immobilization of xylose isomerase (Gancarz et al. 2003a). PES (De Bartolo et al. 2005) and PES-polyurethane blend (De Bartolo et al. 2007) membranes were modified by the snrface plasma polymerization of AAc, and short peptide arginine-glycine-aspartic acid was immobilized on the PPs. The membranes obtained are snitable snbstrates for cell cnltnre. They elicit specific cellnlar responses and induce hepatocytes to enhance the synthesis of albumin and urea. [Pg.203]

This approach has been used to hydrophilize the surface of the cycloaliphatic polyurethane Tecoflex which is the material used for catheter systems. Upon plasma treatment radicals are formed on the polymer surface which in contact with air react with oxygen and form hydroperoxides [ 108]. The subsequent pho-toinitiated or thermal decomposition of the hydroperoxides produces secondary radicals that are able to initiate the polymerization of suitable monomers [109] (Fig.l2). 2-Hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA), hydroxybutylacrylate (HBA) or acrylic acid (AAc) can be used as hydrogel building monomers. [Pg.23]
