Planetary rulers

The simplest Ens Tinctures are prepared from herbs, and like our Seven Basics or Magisteries, one can be made for each of the seven planetary rulers, for each day of the week. The preparation of the Ens Tincture is only a bit more complicated than our simple Spagyric elixirs, and yet their effect is held to be comparable to an elixir which has greater maturity and potency. The simple skills we leam from this experiment will serve us in future works upon the mineral realm. 

Antimony is said to be the mineral of Malkuth. Earth is its planetary ruler. It contains the rays of all the other planets, and because of this is said to be immortal. Its spirit is fixed to the sphere of Earth. 

This table is just a short selection of common herbs and their planetary rulers. Most of these associations are taken from the 16th century herbalist Nicholas Culpepper s, "Compleat Herbal," held in esteem by a number of alchemists old and modern. 

After Uranus was discovered in 1781, followed by Neptune in 1846 and Pluto in 1930, astrologers modified the system. Today, the most commonly accepted planetary rulers are as follows ... 

We might be tempted to say that at last the Masculine Principle is triumphant, as expressed by the wonderful sun-like radiance. But the picture tells us something different. There is no sun in evidence the planetary ruler is the moon. This young king is under the sign of the moon, and he is standing on the convex surface of a golden crescent moon. So he is not a symbol of the Masculine only but rather a symbol of the Masculine tempered by the Feminine. 

Each planetary sphere has a unique energetic expression and signature qualities associated with it, such as color, musical tones, parts of the body, diseases, medical effects, herbs, stones and metals. For example, the planet Venus is said to be the "ruler" of Copper metal and the herb Yarrow, as well as affecting the kidneys in man. 

SPHERE OF MERCURY Ast. in the mediaeval astrological system, this sphere is associated with the Archnn els, the tutelary spirits of Nations. BRAHE 1582 gives the standard planetary sigii but any of the forms for NERCURY could theoretically be used to denote the sphere, as could the sigils for the INTELLIGENCIES who move the sphere, or the named rulers RAPHAEL, ophiel or zadklel. Notice the planetary pun the cosmos distractedly erred or wandered (TrXavdco) at all times, led by the planetary forces of the seven rulers.
