As with formant tracking, traditional pitch detection algorithms PDAs often have three stages a pre-processing stage, where for instance the speech is downsampled or low-pass filtered, a bottom up candidate finding step, and a decision making step whereby the best candidates are picked. 

For reasonable values of detector thicknc. ss, signal noise, and detection threshold, we observe that the intrinsic resolution degrades as the track crossc s at larger angle s of incidence. This is illustrated in Figure 2.4, which shows rc. solution as a function of angle for 50 and 100 /im pitch.
