Pipe Guides

Except for some specialized applications of the corrugated type, expansion joints and bends require good pipe alignment to perform satisfactorily. Guides serve two important purposes. When installed near an expansion joint they prevent cocking of the sleeve in a slip-type joint or distortion and possible buckling of a corrugated-type joint or an expansion bend. [Pg.278]

guides are usually necessary in long spans to prevent the pipe from buckling as it expands. [Pg.278]

ASME/ANSI B31.3, Process Piping Guide, states that piping pressure can exceed 20% design pressure or allowable stress for 50 houi at any one time and for less than 500 hours per year or it can exceed 33% design pressure or allowable stress for 10 hours at any one time and for less dian 100 hours per year. [Pg.158]

Many problems have plagued steam generators of nuclear power plants over the last decades. Therefore, Laborelec developed its own inspection equipment and services. These were extended to other components of nuclear plants like thimbles, guide cards and baffle bolts and to classical parts of power stations like turbines, alternators, heat exchangers and piping. [Pg.1023]

Piping supports, guides, and anchors increase local stresses on the pipe wall at the point of attachment. These stresses derive from continuously acting loads owing to the weight of the piping system carried at these points (pipe, contents, insulation), the pressure in the pipe, and any other loads such... [Pg.60]

Thermal displacements. A piping system will undergo dimensional changes with any change in temperature. If it is constrained from free movement by terminals, guides, and anchors, it will be displaced from its unrestrained position. [Pg.987]
