Alkaloid tests have been given by a few plants in this family those may have been due to the presence of belacyanins and betax-anthins, which arc not always considered as alkaloids in the strictest sense. Positive tests were given here by a few species known to contain alkaloids Phytolacca americana (2/7), P. icosandra (1/4), P. octandra (2/4), and Rivinia humilis (1/3).
