Physical Properties and Intermolecular Interactions of Amines

PROBLEM 11.5 Explain why the tertiary amine (CH3)3N boils so much lower than its primary isomer CH3CH2CH2NH2. [Pg.331]

All three classes of amines can form hydrogen bonds with the —OH group of water (that is, O—H- -N). Primary and secondary amines can also form hydrogen bonds with the oxygen atom in water N—H- -O. Thus, most simple amines with up to five or six carbon atoms are either completely or appreciably soluble in water. [Pg.331]

Now we will describe some ways in which amines can be prepared. [Pg.331]
