Photochemistry and Photoluminescence

There are many processes in nature that are essential to our lives that involve photochemistry. The oxygen we breathe is produced by photosynthesis. Our entire food chain depends on photosynthesis. The protective ozone layer surrounding the earth depends on photochemical synthesis. Photochemistry in the retina of the eye 

Emission of absorbed light as radiation leads to the phenomenon of photoluminescence, which is important in many areas of science and technology. It will be treated in Sect. 8.2.2.
