Phosphorus Trichloride, Technical

The requirements of the US Armed Forces for P trichloride are covered in two specifications, M1L-P-10398B (11 Feb 1969) for Phosphorus Trichloride, Technical, and MIL-P-51300 (12 March 1969) for Phosphorus Trichloride, Analyzed Reagent... [Pg.734]

The formation of the technically important 2 -hydroxy-3 -naphthoylanilines (Naphthol AS derivatives) is accomplished primarily by a condensation reaction between 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid and an aromatic amine in the presence of phosphorus trichloride at 70 to 80°C. Appropriate reaction media are organic solvents, such as toluene or xylene. In stoichiometric terms, one mole of 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid reacts with 0.4 to 0.5 moles of phosphorus trichloride. The solution is allowed to cool to room temperature, then neutralized with a sodium carbonate solution, and the Naphthol AS derivative is isolated by filtration. Mechanistically, the reaction is thought to proceed via the phosphoazo compound (11) ... [Pg.190]

There are two types in which phosphorus trichloride is manufactured, A and B. Technical characteristics for these products are given below Characteristics Type A Type B... [Pg.420]

Dichloro Organo Iho iiines. In 1873 A. Michaelis discovered the reaction of benzene with phosphorus trichloride leading to dichloro phenylphosphine. But the technical application could not be achieved until much later when the said process was successfully influenced by applying suitable catalysts (Figure 8). [Pg.297]

Dalapon is produced by the chlorination of propionic acid. Chlorination is carried out at high temperature in the presence of a catalyst, phosphorus trichloride or light, for example, to suppress the formation of 2,3-dichloropropionic acid. The technical acid is contamined by small quantities of 2-chloropropionic acid and... [Pg.497]
