Phenyl group grafted polymer

Two hydrophobized polymers, MA-DP-A20 (phenyl group grafted in 20 mol%) and MA-DP-H68 (hexyl group grafted in 68 mol%), were selected for the evaluation of the interaction between polymers and cell membranes... 

In a subsequent study, the Co coordinated assembly was grafted onto a cross-linked poly(glycidoxypropylmethacrylate) (GMA)-ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EDMA) support surface. The template and Co ions were then leached out from the matrix. This surface grafted polymer exhibited turnover, Michaelis-Menten kinetics and mechanisms such as inhibition by tosyl phenyl alanyl chloromethyl ketone and inhibition on acetylation of hydroxyl group of 2-hydroxyethylmethacry-late (HEMA), similar to native chymotrypsin. 

Hybrid graft copolymers having silicon-based polymer backbones were also prepared by the metal-mediated radical polymerizations of styrene. The phenyl groups of poly[(methylphenyl)silylene] were bromomethylated and then employed as the grafting points of polystyrene (G-16).294,441 Polysiloxane can be employed also as a backbone (G-17) by introduction of benzyl chloride units into the pendant vinyl-functionalized poly(dimethylsiloxane).409...

Jyo et al. highlighted in their work the influence of the type of the group grafted (funetionalized) on a maeroporous polymer upon the metal ion selectivity. Therefore when the phosphonic acid group was attached to phenyl groups of the eopolymer matrix they obtained the following overall metal ion selectivity sequences Mo Fe U Bi ... 

If the diazonium groups result from the diazotation of poly-/>-amino-styrene, the macroradicals will initiate grafting. Contrarily, if >-(N-acetyl) phenylenediamine is diazotized and used as initiator of a first monomer, a polymer is obtained with an acetamino. phenyl end group (-CGH4-NH-Ac). After hydrolysis of this last and diazotation of the free amine group, the polymeric terminal diazonium salt can be used with ferrous ions for the synthesis of block copolymers. 

The simple way to cancel these two limitations appears to synthesise a material with a permanent porosity, allowing a good access of the grafted species in any kind of solvent. In addition, the presence of two or more methylene units between the heteroatom of the functional group and the phenyl ring of the polymer backbone would avoid the problem of the benzylic position. There are different ways to prepare a polymer supports having permanent porosity, but only some of them could be used for our purpose ...
