Phenyl ether 3-Phenylethyl bromide

Phenyl-j8-phenylethylmethylarsine, C6H5.[C6H5(CH2)2]CIl3.As, results when magnesium j8-phenylethyl bromide and phenyhnethyliodo-arsine react in ether solution. The product is a colourless liquid, B.pt. 187° C. at 12 mm., or 190° C. at 15 mm., and the yield is about 82 per cent. 

The cleavage of Te-C (phenyl) bonds was observed in reactions between diphenyl tellurium dichloride and 2-phenylethyl magnesium bromide in a diethyl ether/benzene medium at room temperature. Tris[2-phenylethyl telluronium bromide (m.p. 127°) and chloride (m.p. 135°) were isolated in approximately 40% yield4.
