Phencyclidine hypertension with

Eastman, J.W., and Cohen, S.N. Hypertensive crisis and death associated with phencyclidine poisoning. JAMA 231 1270-1271, 1975. [Pg.172]

The psychoactive effects of phencyclidine are stimulant and similar to the effects of hallucinogens. Hallucinations are often bizarre, frightening, and challenging. Aggressive behavior, usually with amnesia, is common. Self-destruc-tive actions are also seen. Overdosage is associated with paresthesia, slurred speech, ataxia, and later catatonia, dilated pupils, and coma, with tachycardia, hypertension, and dysrhythmias. Seizures and deaths have occurred (SED-11, 86 4). [Pg.623]

In seven cases of poisoning with phencyclidine, death followed a hypertensive crisis (9). In one case an acute episode of hypertension resulted in coma and blindness (10). [Pg.623]

Phencyclidine is an anesthetic, analgesic, hallucinogenic drug which was widely abused in the 1970 s. As a street drug it was known as "peace pill", "crystal", "hog" and most commonly "PCP" or "angel dust" [161]. It is often used in combination with other illicit drugs and may be smoked, inhaled, snorted, or taken by injection. The abuse of phencyclidine has been associated with respiratory depression, convulsions, hyperpyrexia, hypertensive crisis and schizoid psychoses. [Pg.607]

Phencyclidine use results in excitation with marked paranoid or aggressive behavior, which is often selfdestructive. Effects include distortion of body image, diminished pain perception, illusions, and delusions, including a perception of superhuman strength and invulnerability. Miosis and nystagmus (horizontal, vertical, and rotary) may be seen in association with ataxia, bizarre behavior, and hallucinations. Tachycardia, hypertension, hyperreflexia, seizures, respiratory depression, and coma are reported with high doses. Dystonias and dyskinesias have been reported. [Pg.1980]

Stimulants (amphetamines, cocaine, phencyclidine) Agitation, anxiety, seizures. Hypertension, tachycardia, arrhythmias. Mydriasis, vertical and horizontal nystagmus with PCP. Skin wana and sweaty, hyperthermia, increased muscle tone, possible rhabdomyolysis Control seizures, hypertension, and hyperthermia... [Pg.519]
