1,10-phenanthroline ligands materials

Recently, interest in copper-catalyzed carbon-heteroatom bond-forming reactions has shifted to the use of boronic acids as reactive coupling partners [133], One example of carbon-sulfur bond formation is displayed in Scheme 6.65. Lengar and Kappe have reported that, in contrast to the palladium(0)/copper(l)-mediated process described in Scheme 6.55, which leads to carbon-carbon bond formation, reaction of the same starting materials in the presence of 1 equivalent of copper(II) acetate and 2 equivalents of phenanthroline ligand furnishes the corresponding carbon-sulfur cross-coupled product [113]. Whereas the reaction at room temperature needed 4 days to reach completion, microwave irradiation at 85 °C for 45 min in 1,2-dichloroethane provided a 72% isolated yield of the product. [Pg.152]

Orange coordination polymers 7.23 with two phenanthroline ligands attached to the cationic Cu(I) center have also been studied. Electrochemical investigations showed that oxidation of Cu to Cu results in a coordination change that involves metal dissociation, which is fiilly reversible upon reduction (47j. Such materials are of interest with regard to the formation of electroresponsive membranes and controlled transport materials. [Pg.215]

The presence of zinc with bidentate nitrogen donor ligands in the formation of novel composite materials by hydrothermal reactions has been studied. A zinc-containing one-dimensional material, [Zn(phenanthroline)Mo04] was isolated from molybdate, and from vanadium oxide in the presence of zinc 2,2 -bipyridine [Zn(2,2,-bipyridine)2V40i2] was obtained.212,213... [Pg.1162]

There is a brief but eomprehensively referenced section on iron in a review of homoleptie 2,2-bipyridyl eomplexes " iron-terpy (3 pages) and iron-quaterpy (1/2 page) complexes have also been briefly reviewed." Absorption spectra and photochemistry of apprcmriate iron diimine complexes are ineluded in a text on polypyridyl and porphyrin complexes." A review of the applieation of ehiral 2,2 -bipyridines, 1,10-phenanthrolines, and 2,2 6, 2"-terpyridines in homogeneous eatalysis eontains a little material on iron complexes of such ligands." ... [Pg.438]

Although the resolution into their enantiomeric forms of octahedral metal complexes bearing bidentate ligands was accomplished at an early stage,19 the application of such materials for the preparation even of dinuclear complexes was greatly delayed.20 Only recently has the preparation of a particular stereoisomer of a diruthenium complex been accomplished by the resolution of the bis-o-phenanthroline complex (9). The subsequent use of the optically active material in a stereoselective reaction with 2,5-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine (10) yielded the dinuclear com-... [Pg.79]

It is noteworthy that substitution of 1,10-phenanthroline for 2,2 bipyridine results in a structurally unique series of materials. For example, the network structure of [Cu(l,10-phen)(VO)(H2O)(O3PCH2PO3)], illustrated in Figure 4, contrasts with that of [ Cu(2,2 bpy)(H20) (V0)(03PCH2P03)] in several important features. The aqua ligand in the latter material resides on the Cu(II) site. Consequently, the copper links to the V-P-0 network only through two phosphonate oxygen donors. The vanadium center... [Pg.45]
