Phenanthro phenanthrene

Naphtho- (naphthalene) Perylo- (perylene) Phenanthro- (phenanthrene)... [Pg.9]

Sander and wise have proposed a test method to determine the bonding chemistry used to prepare octadecylsiloxane column packings based on the relative retention of three polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, benzo[a]pyrene (BaP), phenanthro-phenanthrene (PhPh), and l,2 3,4 5,6 7,8-tetrabenzonaphthalene (TBN) eluted with the mobile phase acetonitrile-water (85 15) [52,67,199,210]. On monomeric phases the test solutes elute in the... [Pg.188]

A difference in reactivity was observed between the phenanthro[9,10-r]- and acenaphtho[l,2-c]-l,2,5-thiadiazole 1,1-dioxides 51 and 53 when treated with thiourea. The acenaphtho derivative 53 gave the expected addition product however, the phenanthro thiadiazole 51 was reduced to the thiadiazoline 1,1-dioxide 52 (Equation 2) <2004JP01091>. The difference in reactivity was attributed to the enhanced resonance stability offered by the phenanthrene group. [Pg.530]

The structure of the partially saturated phenanthro spiro-fused triazolotriazine derivative 36 (Scheme 3) has been studied by X-ray analysis <1997J(P1)1047>. This structure elucidation revealed that between the benzene ring and the phenanthrene unit there is a small out-of-plane tilt (8.4°). [Pg.849]

Irradiation of the 9-(2-aminoethyl)phenanthrene (equation 51) under the same conditions but for 70 hours produces phenanthro[l,10- ,[Pg.707]

SRM 869a Column Selectivity Test Mixture for Liquid Chromatography [44] is composed of three shape-constrained PAHs (phenanthro[3,4-c]phenanthrene, PhPh l,2 3,4 5,6 7,8-tetrabenzonaphthalene, TBN and benzo[a]pyrene, BaP) and is routinely employed to evaluate the shape selectivity of stationary phases. The retention differences between the nonplanar TBN and planar BaP solutes (expressed as a selectivity factor axEN/BaP = provide a numerical assessment of... [Pg.240]

Fujimoto et al. [77] synthesized a novel phase by coupling a dodecylamino-substituted P-cyclodextrin (P-CD) to 3-glycidoxypropyl-derivatized silica gel. The surface coverage of this phase was reported as 0.37 xmol/m, which amounts to a surface coverage of 2.6 xmol/m for C12 chains (seven chains per fi-CD). An increase in shape selectivity was observed when compared with a conventional Cis monomeric phase as determined by selectivity differences between j9/m-terphenyl, j9/o-terphenyl, and coronene/phenanthro[3,4-c]phenanthrene solute pairs and was attributed to the localized high ligand density as constrained by the fi-CD platform structure. [Pg.249]

The synthesis of li7-cyclopropa[/]phenanthrene (142) presented unexpected difficulties and met many failures. Early approaches used a variety of schemes which were not adequate for this highly reactive compound and invariably produced ring-opened products. Thus irradiation of the substituted indazole 138 resulted in nitrogen extrusion and formation of the biradical 139, which reacted with the solvent, benzene, to form 140. The desired cycloproparene 141 was not formed. Ring contraction of 144, in turn, produced derivatives of 9-phenanthroic acid, the formation of which was shown not to involve phenanthrocyclopropenone (143). °° The attempted 1/3/elimination of 145 was similarly unsuccessful and afforded no 142. ... [Pg.56]

In phenanthro[4,5-6crf]furan (120) the shifts at the phenanthrene 9,10-positions are to somewhat lower field of those in phenanthrene itself of course the formal conjugation path between these positions and the oxygen atom is tortuous (77BCJ3329). [Pg.562]

Numerous examples of stilbene-to-dihydrophenanthrene photocyclization incorporating oxygen and sulfur heterocycles have been reported. Oxidation to the phenanthrene is usually effected by added iodine or by oxygen. Thus, irradiation of 2,3-diphenylchromone (37) results in the formation of phenanthro[9,10 -2,3]chromone (38)29 analogous photocyclizations have... [Pg.7]

Pschorr Synthesis. In this synthesis of phenanthrene derivatives, one of the steps involves the union of two aryl nuclei through a diazotiza-tion reaction. By treatment of diazotized a-phenyl-o-aminocinnamic add with copper, 9-phenanthroic add is obtained.24... [Pg.239]

Under the Schmidt reaction conditions, the lactol (152) of 4-formyl-5-phenanthroic acid gives 1 -aza-pyren-2(lW)-one (153) and phenathrene-4,5-dicarboximide (154)." The compound (153) may be formed by attack of hydrazoic acid at the latent aldehyde site in preference to the carboxy site (see Section 4.4.4.2). Phenanthrene-4,5-dicarboxylic acid (155), obtained by oxidation of (152), similarly affords... [Pg.819]
