Phase-locked behavior

Figure 21.10 shows the transient behavior of the combustor pressure as the proper phase-delay was applied at time t = 0 and the comparison of the pressure spectra. The high-amplitude oscillations were quickly brought under control and all of the harmonics, as well as the fundamental, were effectively suppressed in this case. The RMS pressure amplitude under active control was maintained well below 0.5% of the combustor pressure. It should also be noted, however, that oscillations at a very small level are still needed to maintain the phase-lock and vortex-synchronized fuel injection. [Pg.343]

Progress in the physics of disordered media—that is, in the physics of media with a random distribution of microheterogeneity—is mainly made via the solution of problems involving the connection between the microscopic structure and the macroscopic behavior. This problem properly belongs to the realm of the kinetic theory of matter and is analogous to the problem of locking in the theory of fluids, hydrodynamic turbulence, the theory of phase transitions, and so on. [Pg.96]

If the Ca -IPs oscillators are not identical the possible collective dynamics becomes more complicated. We were interested in the parameter region where synchronous oscillations are observed, as this is the behavior observed for hepatocytes doublets [27]. The oscillations in the two cells are of course not identical but their phase difference is locked and the spike ratio is 1 1. The two cells differ in their intrinsic frequencies due to differences in... [Pg.129]
