Phase Behaviour of Ionic Liquid Water Alcohol

3 Phase Behaviour of (Ionic Liquid + Water + Alcohol) [Pg.377]

Ionic liquids were found to be suitable entrainers for the separation of azeotropic (water + alcohol) mixtures by means of extractive distillation or solvent ex- [Pg.377]

Ionic hquids have stronger interactions with water than with alcohol. Therefore, the relative volatility of the alcohol is increased by addition of the ionic liquid. A higher ionic liquid concentration results in a higher relative volatility of the alcohol, eventually resulting in breaking of the azeotrope. i4s,iso,154,156,158,159 general vapour-liquid equilibrium of [Pg.377]

Generally, most hydrophilic ionic liquids are the best entrainers. A decrease in alkyl chain length of the cation enhances the relative volatility of the alcohol. The choice of anion also has a large influence. Ionic [Pg.377]
