But that s exactly what an extension of metabonomic technology dubbed pharmaco-metabonomics (with or without a hyphen) was able to do in at least one notable case recently. The definition of this new omics is the prediction of the outcome (for example, efficacy or toxicity) of a drug or xenobiotics intervention in an individual based on a mathematical model of pre-intervention metabolite signatures according to Dr Nicholson, whose group has focused on metabonomic research.
