Performance of an Alloy in a Given Medium

Performance tests try to answer users classic questions What will the lifetime of my roof be of my heat exchanger , etc. These tests are generally performed under conditions as close as possible to reality  

In order to ensure that the results of these tests (which can be very expensive) can actually be exploited, they have to be calibrated with respect to industrial use conditions. Certain media such as seawater are notoriously difficult to reproduce under laboratory conditions [10]. Whenever possible, natural seawater should be preferred for determining the resistance to corrosion in seawater.
